Rhyming For Kicks

The Idea

In its 3rd year running, Rhyming For Kicks is a philanthropic collaborative initiative between breakfast for dinner and global sneaker authority Hunting For Kicks, that addresses the inaccessibility of quality footwear for youths, as well credible platforms for emerging artists to be heard. The concept takes advantage of the burgeoning sneaker culture and equally robust rap scene in South Africa, for a good cause.

The Job

Communicate the sustainability and recycling benefits of “Choosing Cans” when consumers make their beverage choices, while appealing to the emerging and current markets in South Africa.

The Approach

We initiate a sneaker drive, for which we call on our community of influential partners to donate towards. Previously, these have included Red Bull, Archive, HYPE Magazine, Sportscene and personalities Riky Rick, Okmulkoolkat, Anthea Poulos, Loyiso Gola, among others. Through our various social media portals, as well as our database, a public call-out is made to all young, non-professional rappers looking for an opportunity to be validated by some of industry’s most discerning ears. By way of online registration, participants register according to shoe size category.

The Execution

On the day, the M.O is simple: if you have a solid verse and out-perform those in your category, we have a personalised pair of sneakers for you, gifted and signed by one of your favourite SA creators. Each year, we give away over 70 pairs of crisp kicks to aspiring emcees, rappers and musicians from all over the country. Content: the event lives online as 4 x 3 minute social media clips and an extended YouTube recap video
